Marine Outfall System with Cyclone Protection Measures for

Pondicherry Distilleries Ltd., Pondicherry.

Project:

Turnkey implementation of marine outfall scheme for safe disposal of untreated spent wash.

Location of Disposal:

Off Pondicherry coast in Bay of Bengal - a coast line subjected to periodic and severe cyclonic effects.

Pipeline On Seabed

Scheme:

HDPE outfall pipeline starting from pumping station in factory and 600 m long submarine pipeline in Bay of Bengal with high efficiency multiport diffuser.

Salient Features:

An economically viable marine disposal scheme was adopted for untreated spent wash to bring down
BOD to safe limits.
Specially designed diffuser system erected in sea to bring down the BOD of untreated spent wash to
just 3 ppm around discharge point.
Special cyclone protection measures were provided to the pipeline to safeguard it from severe cyclonic
effects in the region.

Performance Record:

The submarine pipeline withstood May '90 cyclone, which devastated the entire east coast of South India.
